There’s a special rhythm to a bamboo fly rod — the subtle spring of the cane, the warmth beneath your fingers, and the effortless harmony it creates between angler and water. The Two-Hearted Bamboo from J.A. Henry Rod & Reel Co. honors that timeless craftsmanship.
We’ve been humbled by the response to this rod — our first ten builds sold quickly, and we’re proud to say we are currently sold out. But two new rods — No. 007 and No. 008 — are now underway, with completion expected in November. Both are available for advance reservation, and we expect they will find their owners quickly.
Looking further ahead, Rods No. 009 through No. 012 are planned for early to mid-2026, continuing the meticulous craftsmanship that defines every Two-Hearted Bamboo.
The Craft Behind Every Rod

Each split cane rod begins as a single stalk of Tonkin bamboo. Weeks of shaping, heat-treating, planing, and fitting — all by hand — transform that raw cane into a rod that responds like an extension of your arm. Every culm is split into narrow slivers, carefully tapered to thousandths of an inch, and six strips are joined to form a precise hexagonal blank.
From there, the rod is hand-sanded, varnished in multiple coats, and fitted with nickel silver hardware and hand-turned cork. Each step takes time, care, and patience — because a bamboo rod is not made; it is earned.
Made for the Waters that Inspire It
The Two-Hearted takes its name from one of Michigan’s most storied rivers — a place where wild fish rise and solitude still rules. Like the river itself, this rod rewards a thoughtful cast and a patient day.
Advance reservations are now open for Rods No. 007 and No. 008. Secure your place in this limited series and be among the next anglers to experience the artistry and feel of a Two-Hearted Bamboo.
