For many anglers, seeing a Coaster Brook Trout in the wild is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. These magnificent fish once inhabited the cold tributaries and rocky shorelines of Lake Superior and Northern Michigan, but decades of habitat loss and other environmental pressures dramatically reduced their numbers throughout much of their historic range.
That is why we proudly support Trout Unlimited’s Coaster Initiative.
The initiative is dedicated to restoring self-sustaining populations of Coaster Brook Trout by improving habitat, reconnecting streams, supporting research, and working with partners across the Great Lakes watershed. It’s a long-term commitment to bringing back one of Michigan’s most iconic native fish—not simply for today’s anglers, but for generations to come.
Restoring Coasters to their native range isn’t just about increasing fish numbers. It’s about restoring an ecosystem, preserving a uniquely Great Lakes fishery, and honoring a piece of Michigan’s natural heritage that nearly disappeared.
