The First Cast Toward a Lasting Legacy

There are moments that remind us why we do what we do.

Today, we are honored to recognize John C. of Grand Rapids, Mi, whose generous direct donation to Trout Unlimited’s Coaster Initiative has earned him the Coaster Bamboo Rod No. 001, the very first rod in our new 8′ 6wt Tonkin bamboo series.

This isn’t simply the first rod of a new model. It represents a commitment to preserving one of the Great Lakes’ most iconic native fish—the Coaster Brook Trout. Every handcrafted detail in this rod reflects the history of our waters and the anglers who have treasured them for generations. Through John’s generosity, that story continues.

His contribution will directly support ongoing efforts to restore and protect self-sustaining populations of Coaster Brook Trout throughout the Lake Superior watershed. It’s a reminder that conservation isn’t accomplished by organizations alone—it happens because individuals step forward and choose to make a difference.

On behalf of everyone at J.A.Henry Rod & Reel Co., thank you, John, for believing in this mission and for helping preserve a remarkable piece of Michigan’s natural heritage.

We look forward to seeing Coaster Bamboo Rod No. 001 on the water, where it belongs, creating memories while carrying forward a legacy of craftsmanship and conservation.
